Google Phone Won’t Turn Orange Any Time Soon

It’s been years since talks of a partnership between Google and Orange, with regards to the Google Phone – two years, to be exact. But it seems that the talks didn’t materialize into anything, as T-Mobile still has exclusive rights to the Google Android.

The Google Phone is one of the most advanced phones in the market today. It’s just sad that a single carrier has the monopoly over it. Good news for non-T-Mobile subscribers is that Google released unlocked Androids for developers. That means, in theory, everyone can get a Google Phone, it they can find one.

If you’re tied up with an Orange plan, you can still get your hands on a Google Android and have it unlocked. You can put your Orange sim card in it, and use it as if you were with T-Mobile. You just have to know the APN settings, in order to be able to use the 3G and Wi-Fi to surf the internet.

Once you’ve set up the network settings correctly, you can freely use the Google Phone with your Orange plan. You don’t even need a 3G sim to use the Google Phone. Even Orange’s 2G sim would work with the phone. This is good news for current Orange subscribers. They don’t need to upgrade their plan, or switch to T-Mobile, in order to use a Google Android.

We don’t know what happened between these two big companies, or why Google has chosen T-Mobile over Orange, but with unlocked Google Phones out in the market, this is a non-issue already. Orange subscribers can use an orange phone without any limitations. Much of what Google planned two years ago, with regards to the Google Android, has been implemented. It’s preloaded with apps such as Gmail, Gtalk, and Google Maps. Plus, it has email and synchronizing capabilities, that makes it the choice for most users who need to be connected at all times.
